Membership

The Connecticut Women’s Golf Association provides competitive golfing opportunities at member courses throughout the state. Beginning each spring, members can enjoy several rounds of golf, meet new friends and experience many levels of competition during the season. Competitive events are divided into three class levels of play: A, B and C. Class level is determined each year by a member’s handicap index at the start of the season. Each Class holds its own competitions during One-Day Tournaments and special Class Mixer events are offered that combine all three. Member Championships and other competitions involving teams from surrounding states are held annually. Each fall, teams from our member clubs are invited to take part in the CWGA Inter-Club Team Matches, a highly competitive and exciting series played in match-play format. For more information regarding golfing events offered by the CWGA, please visit our Tournament page.

Publications

Members of the Connecticut Women’s Golf Association receive an annual Membership Booklet that contains information regarding tournaments and schedules, a list of member clubs as well as policies and procedures.  The Nutmeg Golfer, the news bulletin for the CWGA, is published  bi-annually and is sent to all members.  A booklet containing directions to member clubs is also available.

Meetings

A CWGA membership meeting is held annually in the fall and is open to all members. An awards ceremony is conducted and committees report on the highlights of the year. New officers are introduced and the meeting is concluded with a luncheon.

Club Membership

Any 18 hole private club in the state of Connecticut is welcome to join the Connecticut Women’s Golf Association. Member clubs are required to make their course available for a CWGA tournament no less than every two years and pay annual dues of $15. For more information concerning club membership, please Contact Us.

Individual Membership

Individual membership in the CWGA is open to amateur women golfers who have full golfing privileges* at a member club and meet the following requirements:

A USGA handicap index of 19.4* or less attested by the Women’s Handicap Chairman, Lady’s Golf Chairman or Golf Professional.

A list of the last 20 scores of which at least 10 must be from the applicant’s member club. Applicant must be handicapped out of one club only.

Completed application and payment of annual dues of $60.

New members must play to a maximum handicap index of 14.9 for Class A and 19.4 for Class B in all CWGA events for that season.

A new member will remain in the class in which she enters unless she changes classes as a result of lowering her handicap index, in which case she will remain in that class for the balance of the season.

a. A new member entering in Class A must remain in that class for the season. Handicap Index may fluctuate within the limits of Class A (0-14.9).

b. A new member entering in Class B may lower her handicap index and play in Class A where she must remain for the balance of  season. If she remains in Class B, her handicap index may fluctuate between 15.0 and 17.4.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the CWGA, please contact the CWGA Representative for your club or Contact Us for more information

CWGA Membership Application

* Please note:

Because of misunderstandings as to what a “full golfing member” is, especially with clubs trying to deal with the gender equality issue, the board  revised page 13 of your membership booklet.  Under Individual Membership: a.  Active:  A woman affiliated with any CWGA member club who is eligible to participate in golfing activities of her club without payment of additional green fees may become an individual member upon application and payment of dues, providing her handicap index meets the requirements for membership and play, as determined by the executive committee.

As always, if you have any membership questions,
